View from Green Point looking towards Melbourne city. A page from my sketchbook, the citrus tart on the top left corner was sketch a week prior. A sketch of the view from Green Point occupied the rest of the spread. I went plein-air painting last Saturday at Green Point in Brighton. It’s a lovely green … Continue reading One day at a time in lockdown 4
This is a park in Port Melbourne. There are several lakes and one of the lakes turn pink (below) when the weather is warm, due to the algae present in the water. These were painted in early 2019 - when the weather was warm in Australia.
During my last visit to the KL Bird Park in Kuala Lumpur, I brought along a sketch book and gouache paint. What a lovely place to study birds. Here are some of the residents. Macaw from Brazil; this handsome fella had to work for his food. If you part with some cash, he will sit … Continue reading KL Bird Park 1
Another week passed and my art residency is getting closer to the end. I will miss this landscape. I am doing some sketches in my book. Sometimes they just end up there, but sometimes I use the sketches to develop new work. Anyway, the one above is the first sighting of Cowwarr town, completed on … Continue reading Painting on location

The Post Office building shown in the sketch is now a grocery shop and The Green Room is a florist. … Continue reading Neighbourhood sketches
Last Saturday’s Sketchcrawl continued till late afternoon, at a pub then a rooftop bar and ending with dinner. The Forum Theatre is a beautiful building on the corner of Flinders and Russell Streets. This complex building has now become one of my favourite buildings to sketch. Another favourite – I love sketching Flinders Street Station. … Continue reading WW Sketchcrawl 42 (Part 2)
The Forum Theatre building is lovely, but so complex. I drew this from the Melbourne Visitors’ Centre – a quick sketch while standing. I found a ledge to place my watercolour.
This was completed during a sketchcrawl on a weekend a few months ago. The Melbourne Recital Centre is a fairly new building (opened in 2009) located just outside the CBD. It’s a funky building and there are guided tours inside to building. I enjoyed coming to this area; the art school I went to is … Continue reading Melbourne Recital Centre
Christmas Square is a temporary set-up in the city. I think it’s for kids although there were many adults there. I had a nice quiet time sitting at a cafe drawing this scene, having my coffee and pastry. It was a good view of the square (actually more like a rectangle where the tall Christmas … Continue reading Christmas Square, Melbourne
