Painting on location

Approaching Cowwarr Town

Another week passed and my art residency is getting closer to the end. I will miss this landscape. I am doing some sketches in my book. Sometimes they just end up there, but sometimes I use the sketches to develop new work. Anyway, the one above is the first sighting of Cowwarr town, completed on location.

Twisted Gum Tree

I love painting on location – to see the scene in 3D, to be able to walk around and find the best viewpoint, to remove and add elements to a scene and of course colours are more amazing seeing in real life (compared to my photos anyway 😀). I was at Glenmaggie Weir when I sketch the above twisted gum tree. I love this piece – I think the composition works…

Windy day at Heyfield Wetlands

Out on location again for this third piece and this was a very windy day. It was so windy that as soon as I laid out my materials, the wind would blow them to the ground!

I am planning to do more sketching and recording with my remaining time. Till next time, take care.
