Sketching people in ink

Sometimes I go out with just a pen and a sketchbook. Sketching with a pen is obviously more discreet than with paint.

Without colour, I had to focus on values. It’s a good exercise.

Considerations include bringing closer objects forward, and pushing the background away.

Vary the background intensity for interest…
